Photography is an activity that can be enjoyed by everyone, young or old. If you have a passion for taking photos and capturing the moment by using a digital camera then read on and see how you can make the most out of taking photos.
Photography does not need to be an expensive hobby. It is true that the professional equipment that top paid photographers use are not in most people's price brackets, but you can achieve great results with a bit of research and your regular camera.

Experiment with all sorts of images. Sometimes, even the simplest objects can make really interesting photographs. It's all about looking for the creative angle and trying to make your image stand out from the rest. Take a look around your house and garden and try close up shots or take the photos from above the object looking down, or from the bottom looking up to get a different perspective. This is when you will find your photos becoming more interesting.
Take a look at your car for example. Instead of simply taking a picture of the whole car, why not concentrate on the name badge, or parts of the interior. Lay down on the floor (although not recommended if parked on the street!) and capture the car from a totally new angle. Experiment, and your photos will suddenly become more exciting. If you don't like your images, simply delete them and carry on snapping. That's the beauty of digital cameras.
Aerial photography is another exciting aspect of photography. This is when images are caputured from above, usually involving houses and landscapes. For some amazing photos to give you inspiration, take a look at Highpoint Photos. This site will show you that different angles can give your images a totally different perspective. You can, of course, arrange to have an aerial photograph taken of your house through this website.
Anyone can enjoy photography, and with the new age of digital cameras it is a hobby that no longer means forking out loads of money on large expensive cameras and processing equipment. A really good compact camera can be bought for less than £150 and processing images has never been easier, with the choice of home printing direct from your computer, instore printing and online printing services, some as little as 4p a print.
If you are new to photography then start simple with a digital compact camera. If you can afford it, then one of 6mp (megapixels) or above is preferable. Learn how to use your camera properly by reading the instruction manual. This may sound obvious, but many people complain that their camera is no good and their pictures are sub standard, but this is usually because they have no understanding on how to get the best out of their camera. Modern digital cameras have so many fantastic features on them these days, but it is so easy to select auto focus for every shot then complain if the picture doesn't come out exactly as you hoped. It is not usually the fact that the camera is no good, but usually that the owner hasn't taken the time to understand how to achieve the amazing results it is capable of.
It is easier to get the image exposure right at the time of taking the photograph, but if you happen to create an image that is too dark or too bright (under or over exposed), modern technology will enable you to correct this to a certain extent.
Picasa is a free tool that is available to download from Google. This will store all your photos on your computer and allows you to edit them by cropping, removing red eyes, colour tinting and changing the lightness or darkness of the photo. This facility is a fantastic way of introducing you to image editing as it covers all the basic needs and of course it is free and extremely easy to use.
Adobe Photoshop Elements is the next step in image editing and manipulation. You can pretty much do anything you want with a photo with this software, including cropping, resizing, adding filters, blurring, turn photos into sketches or oil painting replicas, merging different photos together. The possibilites are endless. You can be as subtle or as crazy as you like with your photos. Take a look below.
